Practise manual UT anywhere.

Skip Distance is a flaw detector and a set of test pieces in your browser. Calibrate, build a DAC, scan a weld and write the report, on a phone or a laptop, with no set, no blocks and no classroom.

The Skip Distance bench: a flaw detector screen showing an echo in the gate, with its keys, beside a welded plate being scanned from above.

The weld bench. The set works the way a real one does: function groups, gain keys, gates, two-point calibration.

0

Thickness

A step block, a 0° probe, two gates. Echo-to-echo readings, and what a coating does to a single-echo one.

1

Calibration

The V1 block. Set the timebase, find the probe's real index and check its real angle.

2

Sensitivity

Build a DAC from side-drilled holes, then correct for the plate in front of you.

3

Weld scan

Hidden defects among root and cap echoes. Swivel, plot, size by 6 dB drop, report, and see how you did.

Who it is for

  • Trainees with a practical coming up and no set at home
  • Technicians who want to keep their hand in between jobs
  • Training schools, for the weeks between classroom blocks

What it is not

A practice tool. It does not count as training hours, and it does not replace hands-on training or an examination at an approved centre.

Start with the free bench

Thickness, calibration and DAC are free to use, with no sign-up. Weld scanning with hidden defects and a graded report is in the full version.
